“I’m bored” is the last thing you want to hear from your kids. Keep them busy and entertained, that’s the aim! Otherwise it can all be quite chaotic. Asides from arts, crafts, movies, road trips, zoo trips and shopping, children’s theatre can be an experience that’s enjoyable for the whole family. Here are some children’s theatre shows that are coming to your city these September school holidays.

Of Dahl’s books, this is one of the favourites. It’s full of magic, drama and fun, so it’s no surprise that it’s been adapted into film and now for the stage. Matilda the Musical is the captivating musical masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dares to change her destiny.

Shakespeare for kids: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

When it comes to theatre you can’t go wrong with Shakespeare. Star Theatre brings a clever adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for kids. The classic tale follows the adventures of four young Athenian and a group of actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. A great introduction to for kids to Shakespeare!

The Intergalactic Nemesis

If your kids are comic book fans this one will delight them! The Intergalactic Nemesis mashes up comic-book and radio-play formats into a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience – the Live Action Graphic Novel. Comic book fans will never be the same for them. Just expect awesome! The AWESOME Festival presents a spectacular array of theatre, dance, early childhood activities, film and hands-on activities in the Perth Cultural Centre. There’s plenty to see and do for your little ones, “bored” will definitely not be uttered here.
